Why does X count my post as longer than it looks?
X counts every link as 23 characters, however long or short it is, and most emoji and Chinese, Japanese or Korean characters as 2. The counter above uses the same rules.
How much of my caption shows before "more"?
About the first 125 characters on Instagram and around 210 on LinkedIn, less if your caption has line breaks. Put the hook first.
How many hashtags should I use?
Fewer than you think. Instagram now limits posts to 5 hashtags, and on X, Threads and LinkedIn one to three relevant tags does better than a block at the end.
Do counts differ between apps?
Slightly. This counts what you'd see as one character (so a family emoji counts once, not as five code points), which matches how Threads, Bluesky and Instagram count.
