Lab Calculators

Molarity, dilutions, reconstitution and molecular weight.

Everything is calculated in your browser. Double-check anything critical before you pipette.

Molarity calculator

Mass = concentration × volume × molecular weight. Pick what to work out and fill in the rest.

Worked examples

How do I make 100 mL of 1 M NaCl?

NaCl is 58.44 g/mol. Mass = 1 mol/L × 0.1 L × 58.44 g/mol = 5.844 g. Dissolve it in less than 100 mL of water, then top up to 100 mL.

How do I dilute a 10 mM stock to 50 µM in 2 mL?

V1 = C2 × V2 ÷ C1 = 50 µM × 2 mL ÷ 10,000 µM = 10 µL of stock, plus 1,990 µL of diluent.

What does 1X mean?

Buffers are often sold as concentrates like 10X. To make 1X, dilute one part stock in ten parts total: 50 mL of 10X in 500 mL final volume. Pick X as the unit in the dilution calculator.
